E’ come se un giorno grigio di nuvole si fosse popolato all’improvviso di colori. I segni che sfuggono sulle tele (e sugli innumerevoli tipi di carta in un variare incessante di materiali) sono molto più che un indizio: sono una prova. La pittura può essere un istinto. E Markus Holzinger ha
l’istinto per la pittura. Sicuramente c’è qualcosa nel suo Dna: il padre è un eccellente scultore,
ma dipingere per Markus è stata una passione improvvisa. E’ un tecnico informatico: io ho la
certezza che entrare nel cuore di un computer sia un’arte, ma, in questo lavoro di ogni giorno,
le mani di Markus, la sua testa e i suoi occhi si muovono in un mondo in bianco e nero. Fatto di
bit e chip. Di plastiche e circuiti stampati. Universo straordinario, ma privo di colori. Markus, a un
certo punto, per ragioni inesplicabili, ha avuto un’urgenza: regalarsi i colori e, una volta ottenuto
il dono dell’azzurro, del rosso, del giallo, del verde, li ha trasformati in forme, linee, morbidezze,
intuizioni, incastri, giochi. E’ capitato così che Markus stia dando allegria (quasi una felicità immediata) a chi si sofferma, fosse solo per un attimo, davanti ai suoi quadri. Ha sperimentato,
in tempi brevissimi, tecniche e materiali. Ha indagato. Ogni giorno un passo avanti (o di lato,
o sghimbescio). Un passo diverso. Qualcuno la chiamerebbe ‘ricerca’. Forse è più curiosità,
innamoramento, esplorazione. La più intrigante delle esplorazioni: senza una mappa, senza
nessun luogo da raggiungere. Perché la pittura di Markus ha un semplice privilegio (ancora una
volta istintivo): dà emozioni. E le emozioni trasformano ogni geografia, ogni istante, ogni attimo
della vita in qualcosa che sorprende. E, per un momento perfetto, lasciano una memoria di
stupore.

Segni che inseguono algoritmi incessanti sotto la frenesia di un pensiero che pare non arrestarsi mai sono la caratteristica della pittura necessaria di Markus Holzinger, tedesco di nascita e figlio d’arte. Grato alla pittura, l’autore afferma addirittura che la quotidiana dedizione ai pennelli gli abbia salvato la vita. Il suo diario personale, infatti, è scritto con china e colori acrilici. Markus, inoltre, fa un uso smodato di acqua e colore nel suo procedere istintivo, in un dialogo non mediato tra sé e le sue sensazioni, i suoi pensieri, le sue e le nostre paure, i desideri di tutti.

It is as if a grey cloudy day is suddenly lit by colour. The marks which seem to run from us on the canvas(and on numerous types of paper – a constant variety of materials) are much more than a clue, they are proof. Painting can be an instinct. And Markus Holzinger has this instinct. No doubt the answer lies in his DNA: his father is an excellent sculptor, but painting was an unexpected passion for Markus. He is a computer technician and although I’m quite sure that the ability to penetrate the heart of a computer is an art, the daily work of Markus’ hands, head and eyes is in a black and white world. Made of bits and chips, of plastic and circuits. An extraordinary universe, but colourless. And at a certain point, for unfathomable reasons Markus felt a need to enrich himself with colour: blue, red, yellow and green, which he then transformed into shapes, lines, softness, emotion, connections, games. In this way Markus imparts happiness (an almost immediate pleasure) to whosoever stops even for a moment, in front of his pictures. In a very short time, he has experimented with many different techniques and types of
material: he has closely examined them.. Everyday a step forwards, or maybe sideways or at an angle. A new step. Some might call it “research”, but better words might be curiosity, love, exploration. The most fascinating kind of exploration without a map and with no arrival point. Because Markus’ painting has a singular merit (again instinctive): it makes us feel. And these feelings transform all geography, every minute, every second of life into something which surprises us. And for a perfect moment we are left with the memory of amazement.

Es ist, als ob ein grauer, bewölkter Tag plötzlich von Farbe beleuchtet wird. Die Markierungen, die von uns auf den Leinen zu laufen scheinen (und auf zahlreichen Papiertypen – eine konstante Vielfalt von Materialien) sind viel mehr als ein Anhaltspunkt, sie sind ein Beweis. Malerei kann ein Instinkt sein. Und Markus Holzinger hat diesen Instinkt. Zweifellos liegt die Antwort in seiner DNA: Sein Vater ist ein ausgezeichneter Bildhauer, aber Malerei war eine unerwartete Leidenschaft für Markus. Er ist ein Computertechniker und obwohl ich mir ganz sicher bin, dass die Fähigkeit, das Herz eines Computers zu durchdringen, eine Kunst ist, ist die tägliche Arbeit von Markus ‘Händen, Kopf und Augen in einer Schwarz-Weiß-Welt. Aus Bits und Chips, aus Kunststoff und Schaltungen. Ein außergewöhnliches Universum, aber farblos. Und an einem gewissen Punkt fühlte Markus aus unerklärlichen Gründen die Notwendigkeit, sich mit Farben zu bereichern: blau, rot, gelb und grün, die er in Formen, Linien, Weichheit, Emotionen, Verbindungen, Spiele verwandelte. Auf diese Weise vermittelt Markus das Glück (ein fast sofortiges Vergnügen), wer auch immer einen Augenblick vor seinen Bildern verweilt. In sehr kurzer Zeit hat er mit vielen verschiedenen Techniken und Materialien experimentiert: Er hat sie genau untersucht, Jeden Tag einen Schritt vorwärts, oder vielleicht seitwärts oder schräg. Ein neuer Schritt. Manche nennen es “Forschung”, aber bessere Worte könnten Neugier, Liebe, Erforschung sein. Die faszinierendste Art der Erkundung ohne Karte und ohne Ankunftsort. Weil die Malerei von Markus ein einzigartiges Privileg hat (wieder instinktiv): sie vermittelt uns Gefühle. Und diese Gefühle verwandeln alle Geographie, jede Minute, jede Sekunde des Lebens in etwas, das uns überrascht. Und für einen perfekten Moment sind wir mit der Erinnerung an das Erstaunen hinterlassen.
